Jim Cooper for Sheriff 2022
June 25, 2022
After a long and hard-fought campaign, I am proud to announce that our campaign to bring change to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is victorious.
Yesterday, my opponent Undersheriff Jim Barnes called to give his congratulations and conceded the race. According to the Sacramento County Registrar of Voter, as of Friday, June 24, our campaign has amassed 164,441 votes to Jim Barnes’s 137,424 votes. According to election officials 20,000 ballots remain to be counted.
I have dedicated my life to my community, protecting victims and keeping the public safe. I look forward to continuing this important work as your next Sheriff. As your Sheriff-Elect, I intend to start working immediately with county leaders, elected officials, community groups and department personnel on laying the groundwork to bring the much-needed change to the Sheriff’s Office that I campaigned on.
I want to thank my supporters, you are what fueled this campaign and pushed us over the finish line, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Furthermore, thank you to everyone who voted for me and believed that it was time for a change at the Sheriff’s Office and to those who didn’t support my campaign, please know that I will be a Sheriff for everyone and will fight to keep our county, our kids, and our neighborhoods safe.
It is an honor and privilege to serve as a California State Legislator and now as your Sheriff-Elect.
